West Virginia Woman Sues Bluefield OB-GYN for Stillborn Twin

Posted By Hartley Law Group, PLLC || 24-Feb-2020

Pregnancy can be a joyous time of growth and potential, but it is also a period that requires a great deal of trust between patients and their doctors. The medical care a pregnant woman receives from conception through delivery must meet pre-established standards and is crucial for both mother and child.

One Mercer County woman suffered a tragedy during childbirth, which she alleges is due to the negligent care she received from her OB-GYN during pregnancy. While we cannot change what happened to this woman and one of her unborn twins in the delivery room, our team at Hartley Law Group, PLLC is proud to be representing her during her lawsuit.

Our client was 10 weeks pregnant with twins on April 27, 2017. At this time, her twins each had their own chorionic and amniotic sacs, and both were in breech position (feet first). By the time the plaintiff was 33 weeks pregnant, she experienced a spontaneous rupture of membranes. She was seen by an OB-GYN at the Bluefield Regional Medical Center in October of 2017. The doctor referred to her another hospital, but she was ultimately discharged and instructed to follow up with her original OB-GYN.

According to the woman’s lawsuit, this doctor failed to correctly monitor and treat the complications of her pregnancy, including her preeclampsia (high blood pressure). She alleges this failure led to her emergency C-section on October 23, 2017, where one of her twins was delivered stillborn.

Our firm is helping this woman seek a trial by jury, judgment against her doctor, and financial relief. Attorney Mark Staun is taking care of the case, which will be handled in Mercer Circuit Court by Judge William J. Sadler.
