Hartley Law Group Welcomes Trial Attorney John H. Zickefoose to Expand Medical Malpractice and Catastrophic Injury Practice

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Hartley Law Group is pleased to announce that accomplished trial attorney John H. Zickefoose has joined the firm, further strengthening its commitment to representing individuals and families in complex medical malpractice, catastrophic personal injury, and civil rights cases throughout West Virginia.

John brings more than a decade of litigation experience to Hartley Law Group, along with a rare and valuable perspective gained from representing hospital systems and healthcare providers in high-exposure medical professional liability cases. Today, he applies that experience exclusively on behalf of patients and families who have suffered serious harm due to medical negligence.

“John’s background gives him an extraordinary understanding of how hospitals, insurance companies, and healthcare institutions evaluate and defend medical malpractice claims,” said Dean Hartley, founder of Hartley Law Group. “That insight is invaluable to our clients, and we’re excited to welcome him to our team as we continue fighting for people who deserve accountability and justice.”

Throughout his legal career, John has handled complex medical negligence litigation involving some of the most challenging and high-stakes cases in West Virginia. His firsthand knowledge of the healthcare industry’s legal strategies provides clients with an advocate who understands not only the medicine involved in these cases, but also how healthcare organizations respond when patient safety fails.

A native of Beckley, West Virginia, John is passionate about serving the people of his home state. His decision to transition from defending healthcare providers to representing injured patients reflects his commitment to helping individuals and families navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

“I’ve seen firsthand how medical institutions investigate and defend these cases,” said Zickefoose. “Joining Hartley Law Group allows me to use that experience for the people who need it most – patients and families seeking answers, accountability, and justice after preventable harm.”

John earned his Juris Doctor from the West Virginia University College of Law in 2014, where he received the prestigious CALI Award for Excellence in Contracts. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Marshall University in 2009. He is admitted to practice in West Virginia and Kentucky, as well as all federal courts in both states.

Outside the courtroom, John enjoys spending time with his partner, Laci, their daughter, Rose, and their two Newfoundland dogs, Levon and Murphy. Whether barbecuing, playing guitar, or exploring the outdoors in search of box turtles with his daughter, he values the same sense of community and family that inspires his dedication to clients across West Virginia.

John’s addition reinforces Hartley Law Group’s continued investment in providing exceptional legal representation for victims of medical malpractice, catastrophic injuries, nursing home negligence, wrongful death, and other serious personal injury matters.
